SPS coordination
This page is for you if you have a diagnosis – and also for your parents. At Kolding Gymnasium, we want to help you, as we know that attending high school with a diagnosis can be particularly challenging. Kolding Gymnasium employs SPS coordinators (SPS stands for special educational support), who have special knowledge about students with diagnoses. The SPS coordinators are teachers, so they also know exactly what you will go through during your time at KG – regardless of whether you choose IB, HF, or STX.
We can apply for SPS (special educational support) for you if you have a documented diagnosis (from a doctor/psychiatrist).
The help can be
- A meeting before you start, where you and your parents can visit the school. At the meeting, we will talk to you and your parents about what help you need.
- Introduction to Lectio (the school's intranet system) so that you can fully understand how Lectio works, e.g. in connection with checking homework, assignments, messages, and absences.
- Extra support on the first day of school or before major events (e.g., field trips).
- Meetings with your SPS coordinator as needed, where you can discuss:
-
- Well-being in the classroom and, if necessary, support for social relationships.
- Structuring schoolwork, including homework, assignments, and major written assignments.
- How your diagnosis affects you and your everyday life.
- Preparing for social activities at school (parties, study trips, joint lessons, etc.).
- Help pass on messages from you to your other teachers.
- Anything else you need to talk about.
- Well-being in the classroom and, if necessary, support for social relationships.
-
If you would like to know more about how we can help you, please contact an SPS coordinator.

- We can apply for extra time for exams.
- In some cases, we can apply for access to App Writer, IntoWords (reading and writing tools), and Nota (library for the blind/dyslexic = audiobooks/e-books). This can be helpful if, for example, you have difficulty concentrating.
- If you and your parents wish, there can also be contact between your SPS coordinator and your parents (start-up meeting/status meeting and ongoing contact).
- Your SPS coordinator can act as a link between teachers, management, psychiatric services, parents, the local authority, and you!

Mathilde
"In elementary school, I was tired of school, and there wasn't as much help as there is here at KG, where you meet once a week with your SPS coordinator. It's a really big help."
Mathilde's mother, Lotte
"As a parent of a child with an attention disorder, it is very reassuring when your child is met where they are in the education system.
It means a lot that the school has the resources to support Mathilde—otherwise, I don't think she would be able to complete her high school education.
The weekly conversations with her SPS coordinator mean that she always has the opportunity to draw attention to what she needs help with.”
