General upper secondary education

STX

That's why you should choose STX

Today, STX is chosen by almost 40% of young people. You will have a wide range of subjects to choose from, including creative subjects such as sports and music, visual arts, drama, and media studies. You will have the opportunity to choose subjects at different levels – and at KG, all subjects can be chosen at the highest level.

STX opens the doors to higher education
You can use a general upper secondary school diploma to enter almost any higher education program. In addition, upper secondary school offers an exciting and personally developing educational environment. General upper secondary school has a long and rich tradition of combining academic community with social interaction.

STX will change you forever
Three years in general upper secondary school offer the best possible opportunities for you to develop your knowledge, intellectual skills, and creative abilities. You will become better at thinking independently and critically and at working with others in democratic and inspiring processes.

Structure of STX

The upper secondary school program is a three-year course. It consists of a basic course lasting approximately three months and a study program that spans the rest of the upper secondary school period. You must choose your study program during October.

What is a field of study?
A field of study is a package of subjects that can work closely together to maximize your academic achievement. The subjects included in the package are called field of study subjects.

Common subjects and elective subjects
The study program subjects are only part of the subjects you must take. There are also compulsory subjects and elective subjects. The compulsory subjects are those that everyone must take, such as Danish and history. Elective subjects are those that you can choose yourself in addition to the study program subjects.

You will be in the same class for the common subjects and the specialization subjects. This provides the greatest possible coherence in the program, as it allows for the best opportunities for collaboration between subjects. For the elective subjects, you will be in different classes.

Choosing a field of study

When choosing a field of study, consider your interests and academic strengths. This is the best starting point for making the right choice.

Please note th
, a high school diploma qualifies you for most higher education programs regardless of your choice of study program, admission to some higher education programs requires that you have taken certain subjects at specific levels, and that in most study programs you can meet these requirements through your choice of study program and your individual elective subjects.

Other options
You must choose an artistic subject: Visual Arts, Drama, Media Studies, or Music.

You must choose a foreign language. You have two options here:

You can choose a continuation language (German B) that you have studied in elementary school and build on that, or you can choose a beginner language that you have not studied before (Spanish A or French A).

Levels A, B, C

  • High school subjects are divided into three levels: A, B, and C.
  • Normally, an A subject is a 3-year course, a B subject is a 2-year course, and a C subject is a 1-year course.

  • You must have at least 4 A subjects, 3 B subjects, and 7 C subjects.

  • An elective subject at A-level requires that you have taken the subject at B-level, and an elective subject at B-level requires that you have taken the subject at C-level.

The basic course

The basic course runs from August to November in the first year of upper secondary school.

At KG, the basic course focuses on two things:
Firstly, we work with you to ensure that you get off to a good start in your upper secondary education, both academically and socially. Secondly, we make sure that by October you are ready to choose the study program that suits you best.

In terms of socializing and being a student at KG, we organize various activities at the beginning of the school year so that you can quickly get to know other students and feel like a natural part of the school community. Being a KG student should be enjoyable and safe – that way, you have more fun and learn better. It is important to us that you feel at home at KG.

Academically, you will encounter both new subjects and subjects you are already familiar with.

In the basic course, you must take a number of compulsory subjects: Danish, English, and Mathematics.

As a special part of the basic program, you must also complete two interdisciplinary courses: Basic Natural Sciences (NV) and General Language Comprehension (AP).

In the Basic Course in Natural Sciences, you will be introduced to the natural sciences, their similarities and differences, and the working methods relevant to these subjects. The course concludes with an internal exam that counts towards your final grade.

In General Language Comprehension, you will receive the same type of introduction, but focused on language subjects. What do they have in common, how are they different, and which working methods are relevant for these subjects? This course also concludes with an internal exam that counts towards your final grade.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to try out a number of the school's study program subjects so that you can find out which study program suits you best. You must choose a study program during October.

The basic course ends in early November, after which you will continue in your chosen field of study for the remainder of your time at upper secondary school.
